Welcome to the fourth episode of Jaytalk faith and reality podcast. A podcThis episode seeks to shed light on the issue that has brought about of hearts aches, heart breaks and depression bedeviling many due to disappointments, failed expectations, crushed hopes, and more. As this is becoming a trend resulting to cases of psychological breakdown, hypertension, suicides and all kinds of social vices in attempt to escape such feeling. The focus of this episode therefore is on unplanned hope. Hope that is not planned for.
Life should not just be left to chance, it must be planned and prepared for. I know that no plans or preparations can adequately cater for life's surprises. But that shouldn't be an excuse not to plan.
We know that not everything man proposes is composed of God's purpose and thus not every shots on goal makes it through the goalpost. Nevertheless, shots on goal should be attempted at every clearance chance. For this is the aim of the game of life.
Some people just hide at a corner of life hoping that someday (at the appointed time) someone (the destined helper) will somehow (through divine intervention/revelation) will come to discover them and bring them to greatness. Well this a possibility of one in a million. Anywhere you see an opportunity to show yourself, show yourself. Not just hoping for a miracle.
Hope is wish, a desire, an expectation, a longing for a positive outcome amidst series of possibilities. Hope should be based on executable plan with a chance of success taking into consideration factors that can risk it's accomplishment.
A plan consists of series of steps to be carried out towards a goals to be accomplished. Therefore every hope should have a stepwise approach to make it come through. While planning also have it at the back of your mind that not everything that is planned and prepared for is delivered in the form we expected them and to avoid being left dejected, What is not planned and prepared for in life should not be expected.
The main area of concentration regarding unplanned hope in this episode is the (home), where Charity is said begin and also the root as well worst hit when it comes to failed hopes.
Most families set their children on life's course with hope that the child will do well, that all things will workout fine for their children. On this hope, they build towering expectation from their children. Which often time puts an unbearable pressure on their innocent minds to breaking point. This is prevalent in poor communties of developing countries like ours. Once they succeed in pushing their child or children through the tunnel of the educational system; which they believe holds great promises and treasure at the other end, they expect an inflow of treasure and goodies as reward for labour which they truely deserve. But unfortunately, the other end of the tunnel holds nothing as such. It in fact another difficult journey through darker tunnel in which often get lost in crushing the hope their families.
Consider this story. Johnny was a vibrant young man from a poor background, the first son of his father who through thick an thin was able complete his tertiary education. Upon graduation his parents heaved a sigh of relief hoping he was going to lessen the burden and responsibilities of training his younger one. They had high hopes in but after few years after graduation Johnny hadn't gotten any employment. It has been frustrating, applying without getting replies, attempting menial jobs to survive. Each time he looked at his parents he could see disappointment written all over them and sometimes tantrums were thrown at him.
In attempt to escape, he started doing drugs and he joined the train to get rich quick driven by armed robbery and was arrested on his first raid. Now he more disappointed in himself that of his parents can not expressed in words.
Johnny is one of the many that has turned, is turning and will soon turn out to be a failed hope to many in this country and countries like our in which being born into a home without connection, influence or investmets puts you at a disadvantage. Johnnyy end is a bit better compared to those that ended up commiting suicide done unspeakable things to their fellow humans.
It is not their fault that they were born into such disadvantaged background, it is not there fault that the economy is the way it is neither was it their making that things didn't turn out as you hoped nor why they haven't hit any jackpot yet. If you have /know such person within your family circle, I would advice you try cut them some slacks when judging or comparing them with their presumed equals doing well and better.
Just note this:
Some of those mates of your son's and daughters that are seemingly doing better than your's despite the fact that they grew up together and went to school together is because their parents/relatives had plans for them not hopes on chances.
Back then in school, there were those among us who only needed to get a certificate, not the knowledge or understanding of what they were studying as juicy jobs were already being sought out for them by their parents/relatives. There were those with relative that were connected such that once they finish school they get appointment. There were even those with family businesses to inherit, some having grants from parents/relatives awaiting their business ideas/proposal, etc. It is unfair to compare yours with such nor expect much from them if similar plans is not in place for them.
Hopes without a good plan on ground coupled with preparation that is sound is bound to rebound. Hoping without plans is crime against common sense.
It's not a must for the plan to work but at least have one. The child may not like your plan, still keep to the plan till he comes of age with a better plan for his life that will be feasible and fulfilling.
