They keep laying emphasis on try, try, try again rather than how to try again. A wise man once said that Stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. Before you try again, first understand and resolve what caused your initial failure, if you don't, you will succeed only in failing again.
Success in every endeavor is dependent on three things;
1. The principles on which the success depends on.
2. The conditions that must be met for the principle to be applicable.
3. The materials / elements that complies to the principle and conditions.
Considering Thomas Edison invention, The principle was 'when an electric current is passed through a filament, it glows'. The materials must be inexpensive, and powerful enough to allow electric current pass through it without combusting. Also the material must be in a sealed glass tube with a steady current flowing through it. The key element for the success was a filament that obeys the rule / comply with the principle.
The principle was fool proof, He (Thomas Edison) meticulously ensured the conditions were stable, his major challenge was getting a material that the principle can apply on, i.e a material that is inexpensive and will not combust when current is passed through it.
Hence Thomas Edison persistent retrying was not by doing the same thing over and over again but by changing the material after each failed attempt because he was certain of the principle and conditions.
After testing all sorts of plant growths, they found the best substance was carbonized cotton thread. he and his researchers also found out that the ideal filament was carbonized bamboo, which produced over 1,200 hours of continuous light when a steady current is passed through it.
If you are failing in any endeavor, Your failure must have been that either;
• the principle you are operating on is incorrect.
•or the conditions were not fully met.
• or the materials used are wrong ( does not comply with the principle ). But If all three are perfect and you still failed, then you are the problem.
NB; Am not trying to discourage you from trying again, all am trying to say is, try again only when the the cause of your initial failure has been known and resolved, else your trying again will only be a waste of time, effort and resources.
